Wisdom In Chains : Everything You Know : Review

Before I dive into this review I want to introduce the band first. They bring it from Pennsylvania and have been at it from some years now. They are a hardcore band that draws on Punk, Metal and Oi influences and I would compare them to bands like Sick Of It All, Blood For Blood and even a bit of an early Pennywise feel at times. This band has heart, they have passion for what they do and they are the kind of band that I think a lot of people can really relate to. They are your work hard, play hard and take care of your shit type of band and lyrically challenge the status quo and pull no punches what so ever. We are in crazy times right now people, we have a reached a point where we need to think about and question everything that we thought we knew and Wisdom In Chains are here to help us do that.
Everything You Know is Wisdom In Chains 4th studio full length and is packed with 20 tracks of aggression, good times, anthems and thought provoking songs. This album really made me want to get up and do something, it made me want to make moves and get something, anything done. The songs are heavy and fast yet all have a distinct melody to them and are songs that stick in your mind long after you have heard them. This is the kind of album that will be playing through your head long after you made your way through it. There also seems to be something for every type of punk rock taste on this album, there are short fast songs, sing alongs, and numerous other songs that would get any dance floor swinging fists and throwing down in no time. Lyrically this bands shines as bright as the sun, they really have something to say that is worth listing to and paying close attention to. Songs like The Cost of Living and Everything You Know both tackle serious topics and problems that are really affecting more people than not. They hit the nail dead on every time they tackle a subject. The line “We spend a trillion to put a man on the moon, but we’re dying in the streets of the capital”, in one shot outlines the entire problem we are facing in the world today. They also shift to personal topics of neglect, poverty and happier topics like raising their kids and the importance of friends and loyalty. Every time I hear the song Back to the Ocean it raises an emotion in me that few bands have the ability to do anymore, and you are going to have to buy the album to hear anymore about that song. There obviously was a great deal of effort put into this album, the music, the lyrics are all spot on and I feel it is their best offering to date. You need to listen to this band and starting with this album would be as good a place as any.
