Red Bull Supernatural Wrap Up

The Red Bull Supernatural has now forever changed the paradigm of competitive snowboarding. I think that the Supernatural is something that snowboarders have wanted for a long time, a true free ride competition that blends every aspect of snowboarding into one contest therefore crowning a true champion. The Supernatural took the steep and terrifying lines of back country riding, the massive kickers of slope style riding and the rails of urban riding and combined them all into one course and then had the best of the best compete to find the true king of snowboarding.
The course started with what looked like a line out of “The Art of Flight”, but something that was littered with man made stunts, many of which emulated the rocks, pillow gardens and cliffs one would find in natural terrain. Next up was a massive kicker, with three different take offs all into a non groomed powdery landing not unlike kickers built in the back country. There was a rail section that had some enormous features and all these things linked together created the most outrageous contest run in snowboarding history.

The contest brought together some of the greatest snowboarders in the world, both legends from the past, new blood and everyone in the middle. The contest included X-Games Slopestyel gold medalist Mark Mcmorris, Canadian back country legend Devun Walsh, half pipe and big mountain pioneer Terje Haakonsen along with creator Travis Rice and judge Tom Burt calling the shots. Aside from those mentioned the roster was filled out with some of the most influential and talented athletes to ever grace snowboarding and the general consensus from all was that the Supernatural was going to be become the future of real snowboard contests.

The Supernatural was blessed with perfect conditions, amazing support from Baldface Lodge in Nelson British Coloumbia and some of the most creative minds in the snowboard industry today. Travis Rice is to be commended on a job well done and finally creating a course that can truly judge a rider on all aspect of his game in one run. Action Recon has always believed that the best snowboarder in the world is the one that can ride all terrain better than anyone else and when you look at the finial standing of the Red Bull Supernatural it appears that Travis Rice will hold that title until next years winner is determined. Check out some of the amzing action from the event below and congratulations to all involved in the course construction, the riders and the people that photographed and filmed this event. You have all played a big role in totally changing snowboarding for the better.
