Mike Vallely launches Elephant Brand

In December Mike Vallely left Powell-Peralta for what he said was the last time. The brand had brought him back into the mix and really given him no input into his models, closed the door on a lot of communication and more or less paid him as a entry level pro. While Mike may not be setting the trends in skateboarding or winning Street League no one can ever brush him off as an entry level pro nor someone that is any less a marketing tool than some younger pros out there today.

Well Mike V has now launched his own brand called Elephant Brand Skateboards which will feature boards from his past, present and future and are all hand crafted P.S. Stix. When asked what Mike’s vision of the brand was he had the following to say :
“This brand is not framed by someone else’s idea of cool, or what they think skateboarding is from moment to moment. It’s a brand that simply represents what I have always represented: 100% skateboarding for love.”
Sounds like a nice breath of fresh air to me. I think the industry could use a little more soul and a lot less bull sh*t these days.
The website will be up and running soon and in the meantime you can head over there and sign up for their e-mail news letter.
How can you not support a guy with a mission statement like this :
