Ferrari recalls all 458 Italia cars after reports of fires
The Ferrari 458 is not off to the best start, while it looks beautiful and drives like a dream is also appears that it catches on fire more often than it should. Ferrari has reported that after some of its engineers investigated five reported fires the company decided to re-call all 1200 cars that were made and fix the problem. Ferrari said the problem had been traced to adhesive used in the wheel-arch assemblies. In certain circumstances, the glue can begin to overheat, smoke and even catch fire, a spokesman told BBC News. In extreme cases, the melting of the adhesive can lead the heat shield – the liner which protects the engine – to deform and move closer to the exhaust, causing the lining to catch fire. The handful of owners who lost their cars to fires will receive new cars from Ferrari and the rest of the 1200 cars will be fixed and sent back to the owners. Well done on Ferrari’s part for stepping up and taking responsibility and lets hope we don’t see any more of these beautiful cars burned to a crisp.
