Desaster “The Arts Of Destruction” the Action Recon Review

Desaster is a thrash band from Germany and too be perfectly honest have been one of our favorite bands for many years now. They play raw old school German thrash metal and pay perfect homage to bands like Destruction, Sodom and Kreator yet still manage to add their own sound along with a little black metal.
Their latest album “The Arts Of Destruction” finds the band at the height of their career, they marauder along like a perfectly oiled machine of death and destruction and leave in their wake a torn wasteland of blazing metal and chaos. The beautiful thing about Desaster is the simplicity of what they do yet the majesty of it at the same time. When listening to “The Arts Of Destruction” there is nothing groundbreaking or overly complicated about the album, but with that said we have yet to hear a band produce such an authentic piece of metal in a long time. Perhaps it is that simple formula that makes this album so powerful and vicious. When you couple that with the over the top passion this band has for thrash and black metal its no wonder they are such absolute juggernauts of their genera.
The album kick off with title track “The Arts Of Destruction” and the track is relentless from start to finish. The next tack “Lacerate (With Rans Of Doom)” really sounds like a true throw back to the glory days of German thrash, great guitar sound, double bass galore and the vocals of Sataniac will shake you to your very core. From this point on the album rips through some of the greatest and most aggressive sounding metal out there. The only moment one could perhaps catch their breath is on “Possessed And Defiled” which is 8:28 long and explores a more doom/epic metal side of Desaster. Nice to see the lads mix it up on the new album. It must be noted that if you have calmed down a little after this track you’re about to be woken up by the beast of hell himself when closing track “Beyond Your Grace” kicks in, just a friendly warning.

Another aspect of this album that should me mentioned is the stellar production quality. Early albums were very raw and did not always have the best production, but “The Arts Of Destruction” sounds very full and clean. Every instrument is easily recognized, the vocals are recorded at a perfect level and guitar solos are very well executed and recorded. The balance the band has struck between good production and not losing that intensity and raw sound could not be better. While good sound is important, over production would have ruined this album and lost the true barbaric nature of the music.
“The Arts Of Destruction” will be released on Metal Blade Records on February 28th, 2012. The album will be in stores and available on iTunes. Be sure to check this record out and almighty hails to the return of Desaster.
Below we have the track “Queens Of Sodomy” off the new album followed by a quote from Sataniac describing the new album. Truly one the greatest quotes in the history of thrash/black metal.
“The Arts Of Destruction’ … 100% Desaster 100% Metal 100% Hell 100% Non-commercial! We still spit on trends, hail the cult of Metal and send a big F**K YOU to all who don’t believe In Metal music! We don’t want to say so much about the album… only… pure Metal, full of Darkness and Blasphemy, no compromise, no innovation… In our eyes our best sounding and most brutal album so far! Check it out and create your own view. Bang or be banged!”
