Craig Beaulieu interview.
Well I like Snowboarding and I like Metal so obviously if I am going to interview a pro snowboarder then it is going to be Canada’s own Craig Beaulieu and that is exactly what I did.

1) Lets start with the basic information. Where you from? How long you being snowboarding? Where you living now? And what is your favorite terrain to ride?
I am from Timmins Ontario originally, but moved out to Whistler in 2003. I have been Snowboarding for 11 years now. My favorite terrain to ride is probably backcountry then after that, probably going to a rail session with a bunch of friends.

2) You had a hell of a year last year on the contest circuit, tell us about that and what are looking to do this year as far as contests?
I did have a good year last year on the contest circuit. The first contest I did was the UB Crowned in Bromont Quebec. I was a slope style contest that I showed up late too, missed practice and was very unhappy. I qualified 11th out of the 11 people that made the cut for finals. I then rode my ass off and got a $10,000 cheque for 1st place. The second contest was the Grenade games in Whistler. I did the same thing. Qualified like 15th or whatever and came back to receive a $10,000 cheque for first place. This year you could see the same contests, plus a lot more filming going on.

3) You are in the new Elektro movie this year. Is this your first section in a film? If not what other films can we see you ride in?
Yeah, the Elektro movie was awesome this year. This was my second film part. The first movie that I was featured in was “Knockout,” which was also an Alterna action movie. That movie came out last year.
4) Tell us about the current climate as a pro snowboarder. What challenges do you face in keeping this up as your living?
Being a “Pro Snowboarder” at my status is not too shabby. If I were a Pro Snowboarder with my status like……. 6 years ago, I would be making a good chunk of coin! The market right now kind of sucks ass, so the funds aren’t there to help me with all my Snowboarding/financial needs. I am working right now to get my Snowmobile and my truck up into the backcountry.
5) Seems to me that the envelope in all action sports these days is being pushed like never before. What do you see being the next major jump for snowboarding? How much bigger can anyone really go?
I agree, the envelope is being pushed quite nicely which makes the sport more extreme every year I step onto my snowboard. This is a good thing because if it weren’t pushed, we would have an exciting sport like Bowling or curling. Don’t get me wrong, both fun sports while intoxicated, but not a sport you can get “extreme” with. The next big thing we can see from snowboarding would probably be just bigger airs and maybe some triple corks.

6) Lets talk music. What is running through your head when you are riding and what kind of music are you most into?
For music, well let’s just say my mind is a constant circle pit and all my friends are invited to thrash with me. I am a massive metal fan. I cannot snowboard without music. Metal music makes me very angry, but happy at the same time. If I am snowboarding, there is no doubt it will be the fastest metal core out there for my ears to melt too.
7) The Olympics are coming to Canada any thoughts on this? You excited or over it already?
Lame, lame and lame. Oh did I mention the Olympics are fucking lame? I was over it before it was even spoken about Whistler having the Lame-lympics. Fuck 2010!
8 What are your goals in snowboarding, what do you want to accomplish and where do you see yourself in the next three to five years?
My goals in snowboarding would be the make some decent cash flow to actually survive for a bit. It sucks having to work when you should be snowboarding somewhere in the world. In the next couple years, I see myself at metal concerts, wondering why I didn’t join a band.

9) Who do you ride with and where is your favorite place to ride?
Most of the time I actually ride with myself. The music is my friend. It actually makes me ride better when I shred alone. I am antisocial when I snowboard. I really don’t like riding with people that don’t have music. It just seems they are always saying something to me. My favorite place to ride would have to be France or Colorado. Buttermilk park gets huge props from me.
10) Lets give the sponsors some love. Who do you ride for?
I would love to thank Metal Mulisha/Brass Knuckle Therapy, Clyde Snowboards, Billabong, VonZipper, Beaver wax. Mayday and Herd headwear.
11) Thanks for the interview and any last shout outs or shit talk that you need to get off your chest?
FUCK EMO KIDS!
There you have it folks Craig Beaulieu. Look for him this winter to be winning all the contest he enters, as that seems to be the trend with him these days. Check below for his part in last years Alterna Action movie Knockout and keep your eyes open for his new movie Elektro out now.
